Our Program For 2010

Petitioning Against Corporate Personhood

We decided on June 19 to throw our support behind a petition to City Council, asking them to resolve that corporations are not persons and should not be protected by the Bill of Rights or the 14th Amendment. Click here to call up the petition, and several one-page fliers about the issue.

We will be tabling at the Farmers Market on July 17, August 8 and 14, and September 4 along with other members of the MoveToAmend coalition.  Our own series of tabling events, sponsored by the Green Party alone, is under construction.  To sign up for the MoveToAmend tabling series, email Aleta DeBee, < This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it >.  To add your name to our own series, call Janet Jordan at 352-0779.   You can still have input on the dates for our series.

Green Economics:   Towards an Understanding Of the Ongoing Economic Crisis

From February to April, we hosted a series of community discussions, each one preceded by an informative meeting (either a movie or a presentation).  Topics are below.  Click on a topic to find background articles of interest, as well as summaries of some of the discussions.

  • Topic One: The mania for endless “growth” vs. our world of limited resources
  • Topic Two: The economic woes of ordinary citizens
  • Topic Three: Wall Street Casino running amok
  • Topic Four: Reforming the current system
  • Topic Five: Creating a sustainable society  – including local, existing, and creative alternatives
  • Topic Six: Where Do We Go from Here?  Organizing around anything we’ve discussed during this series

Community Potlucks

As a way of bringing like-minded people in the community together, we will hold potlucks, open to the public, at 6 PM on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the MXX96 station meeting room (corner of State and Washington Streets in downtown Olympia). These will be occasions for community members to enjoy good food and conversation in each other's company. Hearty soups, breads and salads will be provided for those who didn't have time to cook, for a $5 charge.

Half-hour Green Party meetings will also be held before the community meetings, to make essential decisions.

"Green Issues Forum"

may be viewed on Channel 22 (Local Access TV)
every Sunday at 8:00 PM and every Monday at 2:30 PM.
